OCSB High School Theatre Recognized at Cappies Award Gala

After a hiatus of three years, the Cappies Award Gala returned to Ottawa in 2023, drawing hundreds of students who came together to celebrate the best high school theatre in the region. The event was held at The National Arts Centre. It featured various performances, including ensemble numbers by the Cappies chorus, live scenes from the shows, and presentations by Ottawa’s theatre and media communities.

Among the attendees were Tom D’Amico, Director of Education at OCSB, and Mary Donaghy, Associate Director of Education at OCSB. According to Katie Lewis-Prieur, OCSB Leading and Learning Coordinator and Cappies Governing Board Co-President, the main objective of the gala was to celebrate high school theatre and literacy.

The Ottawa Catholic School Board community was proud of all the nominees and award winners and was amazed at the incredible talent level showcased this year! One of the gala’s highlights was the performance of “Mean Girls the Musical” by St. Patrick’s High School, which received fourteen Cappies nominations. Another highlight was the big win for St. Joseph High School’s play, “The Crucible.”

OCSB students and teams collected 24 awards at the Cappies Award Gala! A complete list of our winners can be found below.
