St. Michael School (Ottawa) firmly believes in the power of community. They are committed to fostering a strong sense of togetherness, in line with the Ottawa Catholic School Board’s Strategic Commitments to Be Well, Be Community, and Be Innovative. This unwavering dedication is instrumental in creating an environment where students flourish and thrive.
During the 2022-2023 academic year, St. Michael School significantly strengthened its relationship with parents. These efforts included supporting the School Council to keep parents informed and engaged through monthly activities, charitable initiatives, and family events. These events resulted in more parents participating in school activities and seeking support when needed. Improved communication among parents, teachers, and administration positively impacted students’ well-being and learning.
The activities ranged from Family Bingo Nights, Cultural Days, Scavenger Hunts, Pizza Nights, Muffin Breakfasts, and a Year-End BBQ. Additionally, the staff organized Family Math and Literacy Nights to connect families to student learning. Parents and students participated in guided drawing, clay projects, and dance workshops to celebrate the arts. One of the most popular family activities was Family Game Night, where everyone went home with a new game to keep the fun going!
St. Michael School also supported the community through fundraising and charitable events, such as the Terry Fox Walk, and preparing hampers and turkey dinners for St. Michael families at Christmas time. Staff further contributed to their community during their Halloween Cake Walk, where they organized sweet treats to go home with students.
Parents say there is a sense of pride and belonging when you enter St. Michael School, and they are grateful to be involved in the school community.
